“Our National Thanksgiving:
With Thanks to President Lincoln and Mrs. Hale”

Presented by historical re-enactors Steve and Sharon Wood

The couple will portray Abraham Lincoln and Sarah Josepha Hale, the editor of the popular 19th century magazine, Godey’s Lady’s Book. Sarah was born in 1788 in Newport, New Hampshire. Together they will tell the story of Sarah’s thirty-year campaign to have Thanksgiving declared a national holiday. Her efforts were successful when Lincoln signed his Thanksgiving Proclamation in 1863.
